About St John Paul II College
St John Paul II College (JPC) is a Catholic, co-educational secondary school serving families in the north of Canberra. At JPC, we strive for excellence in teaching so that our students are offered every opportunity for success in their learning. Teachers at JPC are provided structured professional learning opportunities including a focus on offering students an excellent education through the implementation of the Science of Learning as expressed through Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn’s ‘Catalyst’ program.
By joining JPC you will benefit from recent changes to our timetable including an increase in explicit teaching time and focus on routines to maximise student engagement. Staff are located in Faculty-based staffrooms to promote a focus on the delivery of quality teaching and learning programs. About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and committed person, to join our community as an English teacher commencing in Semester One 5.
Teachers at JPC work with leaders in the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning and including content knowledge, teaching methodologies, classroom management, assessment and reporting, and professional development within their subject area. They also support student wellbeing through creating safe and inclusive learning environments where all students can flourish.

Demonstrate active support for CECG policies and procedures. Develop teaching and learning programs based on the approved CECG Religious Education curricula. Demonstrate an understanding of Moran's Model for Religious Education: Teaching people about Religion and Teaching people how to be Religious in a particular way. Use a variety of evidence-based, high impact teaching practices. Create a learning environment that stimulates learning and excellence for all. Plan, prepare, record and evaluate work to be undertaken by classes. Participate in the regular review and evaluation of Religious Education teaching programs, learning engagements and assessment tasks. Collaboratively work with specialist staff to support diverse learning needs for all students. Develop formative and summative assessment and explain these to students in advance. Provide timely and constructive feedback to promote student learning and achievement. Fulfil all requirements relating to assessment, including accurate records of student progress and assessment documentation. Communicate with parents in written reports and through parent teacher interviews, and at other times as required. Be punctual and attend all classes. Attend staff and faculty meetings. Complete all administrative tasks professionally and punctually. Communicate with and establish effective and cooperative working relationships with staff. Be proficient in the use of IT as a teaching and administrative tool. Undertake playground, class and supervision duties according to rosters and as required. Attend professional learning and remain informed of current developments in the knowledge, understanding and skills required in Religious Education.Qualifications
Bachelor of Teaching or Master of Teaching. Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) registration and/or NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) accreditation. Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) and/or Working with Children’s Check (WWCC) registrations. Accreditation D or willingness to complete in accordance with the Accreditation to Work, Reach and Lead in Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn Policy.Selection Criteria
A thorough knowledge of the approved CECG Religious Education curricula, with the ability to organise, select and design content for effective teaching and learning. Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage positively with colleagues, students, and parents. The capacity to be a proactive member of a professional learning community complying with the legal, administrative, and professional requirements. Classroom practices and organisational skills that create supportive and safe environments for all students, including meeting a variety of learning needs. A comprehensive understanding of assessment and reporting strategies and the need to provide effective and timely feedback to parents and students.Please refer to the position description for in-depth details regarding the position duties, criteria, and skill set required.
