Senior Associate – Commercial Litigation

About the Role

As a Senior Associate (5+ years PQE), you will lead complex commercial litigation matters, provide strategic legal advice, and manage client portfolios as the main point of contact. You'll play a frontline role in the firm, including Court appearances, client management, and mentoring junior solicitors. You'll also contribute to the management and growth strategy of the Sydney office, with flexibility to work in-office a minimum of 4 days per week (flexible based on matters).

Key Responsibilities
  • Autonomously manage defended litigious matters in Local, District, Supreme, and Federal Courts across Australia.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review pleadings, motions, evidence, and other legal documents across all jurisdictions.
  • Provide strategic advice and memoranda on complex legal issues and points of contention.
  • Attend Court (in person or virtually) and conduct all professional legal work, including initiating winding up and bankruptcy proceedings, and running disputed or contested applications.
  • Act for and against liquidators, manage receiverships, statutory trustee appointments, force property sales, and prosecute/defend preference claims.
  • Handle caveator priority disputes and urgent Supreme Court applications.
  • Mentor and train junior solicitors and admin staff, fostering a strong team culture.
  • Oversee staff and office management, implement operational improvements, and contribute to firm growth.

What You'll Bring
  • Current NSW practising certificate.
  • Minimum 5+ years PQE in commercial litigation.
  • Strong client management and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of legal matters and leading teams.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Experience in debt recovery, insolvency, and dispute resolution is highly regarded.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment.
