About the Role

The Payroll Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date payroll records for our staff while ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and Award determinations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and maintain payroll records for approximately 1,000 staff members on a fortnightly basis
  • Respond to payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Produce accurate and timely fortnightly and monthly payroll reports in collaboration with the Payroll Accountant
  • Prepare ad-hoc reports as requested by management
  • Provide statements of service as required
  • Stay up-to-date with legislative changes regarding the payment and taxation of wages/salaries
  • Contribute to ensuring HammondCare meets legislative requirements through the deduction and remittance of PAYG tax, Superannuation Guarantee, and other payroll deductions
  • Maintain payroll compliance with relevant Award determinations
  • Process new employee records in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ensure employee leave balances reflect up-to-date information
  • Oversee overpayment recovery actions and documentation
  • Ensure employee electronic pay files are up-to-date to support payroll system data
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver a professional service to staff
  • Maintain good relationships with external suppliers, including Frontier Software, Kronos, and Advantage Salary Packaging

About You

  • Alignment with HammondCare's Christian Mission, Motivation, and Mission in Action
  • Tertiary degree in finance, accounting, or related field (or significant industry experience)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in high-volume payroll processing
  • Strong administrative and MS Office skills
  • Proficiency in computerized payroll and time attendance systems (ICHRIS essential)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a large team
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • High level of attention to detail and accurate data entry
  • Empathy and patience
