About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join our team at Miller Leith. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for driving new market opportunities and creating innovative ingredient solutions.

Job Description

The Technical Business Development Manager will report to the General Manager – Functional Ingredients and use their technical expertise and business acumen to develop strategic client relationships, pilot product innovations, and prepare new offerings for successful handover to the sales team.

This newly created, hybrid role offers a mix of field and office-based work in Melbourne and occasional international travel to engage with clients and industry stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to identify and pursue opportunities in functional ingredients, focusing on fibre and seed meal protein.
  • Act as a technical consultant for clients, guiding them through trials and translating needs into tailored solutions.
  • Lead client engagements from initial contact through product development, ensuring alignment with specifications and compliance.
  • Facilitate seamless handovers of new products to the sales team, complete with technical documentation and insights.
  • Conduct market research to identify trends, evaluate competitive offerings, and refine product strategies.
  • Maintain compliance with OH&S and privacy legislation, while contributing to Kagome's continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in business development or sales within food ingredients, food technology, or nutraceutical sectors.
  • Strong technical knowledge of functional ingredients and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strategic client relationships, with a track record of moving products from concept to market.
  • Exceptional communication, sales acumen, technical competency and problem-solving skills.
