Senior Genomics Analyst Position in a Multidisciplinary Research Environment

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Genomics Analyst to join our team at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, a renowned institution delivering impactful scientific and clinical discoveries on a global scale.

As a Senior Genomics Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in driving genomics studies with experimental and clinical researchers across our Research Programs and external collaborations. You will work on cutting-edge projects, including single-cell genomics, spatial transcriptomics, RNA-seq, whole-genome sequencing, and circulating tumour DNA analysis.

This is a two-year contract position with potential for extension. The salary for this position is AU$85,000 - AU$110,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.

Job Description
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyse high-throughput datasets, focusing on quality control, unsupervised and supervised analyses, and biological interpretation.
  • Prepare figures for publication and contribute to manuscript writing.
  • Design and plan experiments.
  • Create and maintain modular and reusable workflows using container and workflow management technologies.
  • Evaluate and benchmark existing methods or develop original approaches.
  • Stay up-to-date with advances in computational methods, genomics, and biological domain expertise.
  • Contribute to training programs through workshop design, mentoring, technical supervision, and code reviews.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • A PhD degree in a related area of science or engineering.
  • Strong statistical knowledge and programming skills.
  • Familiarity with Unix and HPC environments.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (R, Python).
  • Experience with software containers, workflow management systems, databases, and cloud computing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
