The Research Officer will work closely with our investigators, UNSW, and pathology services to integrate HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) data into public health and clinical applications. This role involves supporting the development and teaching of innovative laboratory diagnostic techniques for genomic surveillance within the H2Seq program.

This position reports to Scientia Professor Anthony Kelleher and offers a competitive salary package including an estimated AU$90,000 - AU$110,000 per year, depending on experience. You will also receive access to a range of benefits such as 17% Superannuation and leave loading, flexible working arrangements and additional leave over the Christmas period.

The Role

  • We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Molecular Virology Specialist to join our team in the School of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in virology or molecular biology, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training or experience. You will also need to demonstrate superior interpersonal communication skills and be able to initiate and maintain effective stakeholder relationships while exercising discretion and confidentiality.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support the integration of HIV and HCV data into public health and clinical applications
  • Develop and teach innovative laboratory diagnostic techniques for genomic surveillance within the H2Seq program
  • Develop training materials for diagnostic laboratories focused on the amplification, sequencing and analysis of HIV and HCV genomes
