About the Role


We are seeking a highly skilled Research Virologist to join our team at UNSW Australia. As a Post-Doctoral Fellow, you will play a crucial role in advancing the integration of HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV) data into public health and clinical applications.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular virology research, experience in PC2 containment facilities, and excellent communication skills. You will contribute to the development and instruction of innovative laboratory diagnostic techniques, focusing on the amplification, sequencing, and analysis of HIV and HCV genomes.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Create training materials for diagnostic laboratories
  • Ensure effective knowledge transfer
  • Collaborate with researchers, UNSW, and pathology services to enhance genomic surveillance under the H2Seq program
  • Contribute to the development of innovative laboratory diagnostic techniques
  • Develop and implement new approaches for HIV and HCV genome analysis


Requirements:



  • PhD in virology or molecular biology (or a related/relevant discipline)
  • Demonstrated research experience in molecular virology research
  • Experience in whole genome sequencing for viral pathogens
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
