Senior Molecular Biology Researcher

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Molecular Biology Researcher to join our team at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. As a key member of our research group, you will play a critical role in designing, validating, and implementing new molecular assays and workflows in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), Cellular Genomics, and Spatial technologies.
The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in NGS and/or single cell sequencing, as well as knowledge of molecular biology equipment and related protocols. You will be responsible for contributing to the improvement of projects in the lab, including streamlining current procedures, developing new quality control (QC) procedures, introducing new equipment or methods, and LIMS workflow management.
In this role, you will also participate in troubleshooting existing methods and processes, work cross-functionally with the bioinformatics team to achieve resolutions, and design and complete projects for internal and external clients. Additionally, you will assist in ensuring laboratory activities comply with National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) regulations and ISO 17025 standards by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and reviewing controlled documents.
To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field, with 3-5 years of experience in a molecular biology laboratory. A Master's degree or PhD in a relevant field is desirable. You will possess excellent problem-solving skills, ability to assess and organize resources, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
