Are you a driven researcher looking to contribute to cutting-edge neuroscience and RNA biology projects? We are seeking a talented Research Officer in RNA neurobiology to join our dynamic team at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work on innovative research projects investigating membraneless organelles, alternative splicing, and RNA processing in neurodegenerative disorders. You will have the chance to lead advanced techniques, including CRISPR perturb-seq, single-cell sequencing, APEX-sequencing, and CRISPR editing technology in differentiated neurons.

As a Research Officer, you will be responsible for conducting single-cell CRISPR perturb-seq transcriptomic studies, executing biochemical and RNA biology experiments, performing CRISPR experiments, optimizing iPSC differentiation protocols, designing, collating, and interpreting experimental results, generating publication-quality data, and leading the development of high-impact peer-reviewed articles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct single-cell CRISPR perturb-seq transcriptomic studies in differentiated neurons
  • Execute a range of biochemical and RNA biology experiments
  • Perform CRISPR experiments to evaluate the impact of genomic and transcriptomic changes
  • Optimize iPSC differentiation protocols for motor neurons
  • Design, collate, and interpret experimental results
  • Generate publication-quality data and lead the development of high-impact peer-reviewed articles
Requirements
  • PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or a related field
  • Experience in either transcriptomics or high content imaging approaches
  • Demonstrated expertise or keen interest in RNA biology
  • Proficiency in advanced molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, mutagenesis)
  • Extensive experience in RNA biology and neuroscience
  • First-author publication(s) in high impact journals
  • Track-record in CRISPR technologies
  • Ability to rapidly learn new skills
