The Great Synagogue (TGS) is in the heart of the Sydney CBD located in the most beautiful Jewish building in Australia, dating back to 1878. Their 147-year old heritage building houses a strong, growing membership base and hosts many events and activities for the community throughout the year.

TGS has a thriving, warm Modern Orthodox community, open to people of all ages and backgrounds, which strives to make Judaism accessible and enjoyable.

The Role:

The Administration Coordinator reports to the General Manager.

TGS is focused on growth in membership and member engagement and requires a new administrative support gun to work with the office team and clergy to support Shabbat and Festivals to help coordinate events and support daily operations.

They are looking for an organised, detail-oriented, creative, self-starter who can use their initiative and help us realise our vision.

The Administration Coordinator provides support in the areas of:
  • Shabbat and Festival Coordination
  • General Administration
  • Event Co-ordinating
  • Marketing (Digital and Traditional)

The office team works very effectively together to support the synagogue’s 800+ members and visitors. We’re looking for a strong contributor with a great attitude who supports and integrate well with the team.

This is a full-time 40-hour-per-week position based at TGS, in Sydney CBD near Town Hall station.

RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The Admin Coordinator must possess excellent skills in interpersonal communication to facilitate working with a Modern Orthodox congregation spanning all ages and backgrounds; be highly organised and thrive in a busy environment with deadlines.
  • Self-starting and creative problem-solving skills with strong interpersonal and organisational skills, including the ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) and efficiently prioritise responsibilities. Must be able to take initiative to improve how work is done
  • Enthusiasm, be organised, highly motivated, responsible, courteous, flexible and creative. A sense of humour and ability to work well under time pressure.
  • Familiarity with Jewish rituals, customs and holiday celebrations, or a willingness to learn.
  • Availability to be physically present at the synagogue on selected Events and Sabbaths to ensure events run as planned from time to time.
  • At least one year experience in a marketing or office admin capacity
    Knowledge of computer and web-based systems and social media to support administration, events, membership and marketing
  • Experience with volunteer and event management
