**The Opportunity**
The Indigenous Genomics department at The Kids Research Institute is dedicated to advancing health equity through genomics research that is culturally safe, community-led, and grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems. The team collaborates closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to ensure that genomic research is meaningful, respectful, and delivers tangible health benefits. By combining cutting-edge scientific approaches with deep cultural engagement, the department aims to reduce health disparities and support the development of genomics-informed healthcare that empowers Indigenous families and communities.
Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Review and develop culturally appropriate mentoring, training, and recruitment programs tailored to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and students.
- Promote access to a variety of capacity-building opportunities such as workshops, placements, summer and winter schools, and conferences to support sustainable research careers.
- Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of the UNITE program, including stakeholder consultations, reporting, and administrative tasks.
- Contribute to creating a culturally safe environment and ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are embedded in training and mentoring initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with communities, collaborators, and networks to support Indigenous-led and culturally grounded research.
- Work collaboratively within the team, support clear communication, contribute to strategic planning, and engage in professional development activities.
This is a full-time position until December 2026, with the possibility of extension.
**About You**
You will have the following skills and experience to be successful in this role:
- Experience in the health sector, the community sector or other relevant work experience.
- Certificate in Project Management (desirable).
- An understanding and ability to articulate Aboriginal self
- determination, community advancement and capacity building, as well as to a high quality of service delivery and organisational excellence.
- Great people skills with the ability to develop strong internal and external relationships.
- Professional skills and experience in empowerment, problem solving, written and verbal communication, including ability to communicate in a confident, assertive, and non-aggressive manner.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
