About the Role

Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Human Resources to join our team at our Cairns waterfront hotel.

Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns is a luxury five-star hotel located in the heart of Cairns, with 255 guest rooms, 18 function venues, and extensive food and beverage facilities. As part of a leading international company with over 100 hotels and resorts worldwide, we offer a unique opportunity for a talented HR professional to make a significant impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HR strategies to drive business results and support the hotel's goals
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to the Hotel General Manager, Executive Committee, and Department Heads on HR-related matters
  • Lead and manage a high-performing HR team to deliver exceptional service and support to colleagues and guests
  • Drive talent acquisition and onboarding initiatives to attract and retain top talent
  • Design and deliver learning and development programs to enhance colleague skills and knowledge
  • Manage employee relations, payroll, colleague engagement, industrial relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, and corporate office reporting
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, as well as Shangri-La Group's policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior HR role, preferably in the luxury hotel industry
  • Proven track record of driving business results through HR initiatives and strategies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues at all levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and related software applications, as well as HRIS systems and learning management systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound decisions
