Senior Product Category Specialist

This role involves overseeing the buying and selling of our products by shaping category offerings. A senior product category specialist will be responsible for managing a specific product category, including fitness equipment, bicycles, scooters, and do-it-yourself projects.

The head of home and living will report to this person, who will ensure that high-quality products are offered to customers while taking ownership of the category.

The ideal candidate will possess sound business acumen, a keen eye for trends, and passion for buying and fitness. Key responsibilities include identifying opportunities to expand product categories through sourcing and developing new products, engaging with key suppliers locally and internationally, and actively managing daily category operations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Identify opportunities to expand product categories through sourcing and developing new products
  • Engage with key suppliers locally and internationally
  • Actively manage daily category operations, including planning, promotional activities, inventory management, shipping, and logistics to meet monthly revenue and profit targets
  • Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maximise product profitability by understanding the market and your category
  • Develop innovative strategies to continually improve customer offerings
  • Negotiate optimal trading terms and prices
  • Control price changes across different sales channels and contribute to pricing reviews
  • Ensure timely imports, stock management, and customer demand fulfilment
  • Monitor performance and complete range reviews, taking action where necessary

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A degree in commerce, business, or a relevant field
  • Experience as a category manager, preferably in a similar e-commerce or retail environment
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable building and maintaining relationships
  • Highly analytical, with commercial nous, recognising opportunities and making quick decisions
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adaptable to change
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP and pivot tables) and tech-savvy with various IT tools
