We are seeking an experienced and skilled Indigenous Community Liaison Specialist to join our team.

About the Role

This is a permanent, full-time position that offers a competitive salary package, including a generous remuneration of $120,000 per annum, plus benefits and opportunities for professional development.

Job Description

The Indigenous Community Liaison Specialist will play a crucial role in promoting positive engagement, building relationships, and facilitating collaboration between Service Stream and Indigenous communities and stakeholders. Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and nurturing productive relationships with Indigenous communities, leaders, and organizations through direct involvement;
  • Acting as a liaison between Service Stream and Indigenous communities to facilitate dialogue and cooperation, ensuring active participation and trust;
  • Promoting cultural sensitivity and awareness within Service Stream by integrating Indigenous perspectives into daily operations and decision-making;
  • Providing hands-on guidance and support for incorporating Indigenous cultural values into projects and initiatives;
  • Actively participating in grassroots advocacy and support community members in accessing necessary services and resources;
  • Facilitating direct support and assistance to individuals and families within the community;
  • Engaging with government agencies, Indigenous organizations, and industry groups to stay informed about Indigenous issues and opportunities;
  • Representing Service Stream at relevant community events, conferences, and workshops, promoting meaningful engagement and collaboration;
  • Facilitating meaningful consultation processes with Indigenous communities for projects impacting their interests or lands, ensuring community voices are heard and respected;
  • Towards obtaining Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) where applicable, maintaining a hands-on approach to consultation;
  • Managing community-based projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with community needs and goals;
  • Maintaining accurate records of interactions, agreements, and initiatives related to Indigenous affairs, preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders;
  • Developing and delivering cultural competency training and cultural awareness programs for employees and contractors, fostering an inclusive workplace environment;
  • Supporting Indigenous employment and skills development initiatives through mentorship and capacity-building efforts;
  • Collaborating with sustainability teams to align Indigenous affairs efforts with broader sustainability and reconciliation goals;
  • Monitoring and reporting on progress towards reconciliation objectives, assessing the effectiveness of actions and identifying opportunities for improvement;
  • Supporting the development and implementation of future Reconciliation Action Plans, ensuring ongoing commitment.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience working directly with First Peoples communities;
  • A proven ability to build and maintain trustful relationships within the community;
  • Participation in community-led initiatives and projects;
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating community meetings, workshops, and events;
  • A deep understanding and respect for First Peoples cultures, traditions, and values;
  • Active participation in cultural ceremonies and events;
  • Knowledge of the historical and contemporary issues facing First Peoples communities;
