Harm Reduction Worker Role Overview

This casual position is based in St Kilda, Victoria, and reports to the Harm Reduction Van Coordinator. The successful candidate will work on a set roster, including weekday and weekend shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assertive outreach and harm reduction services to individuals and groups.
  • Work with the team to ensure services provided align with The Salvation Army's alcohol and other drug model of care and policies.
  • Offer sterile injecting equipment to people who inject drugs.
  • Provide naloxone and overdose training opportunities to clients accessing the outreach service.
  • Ensure integrated, holistic, culturally sensitive responses to client needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with police, ambulance, and other professionals for client safety.
  • Support the Community Health Nurse in primary health care provision.
  • Identify unmet needs and refer clients to mental health, housing, and other relevant services.
Requirements
  • Certificate IV (or equivalent) in AOD interventions or four competencies required to work within the AOD Sector.
  • A valid Victorian Drivers Licence (desirable).
  • A current Victorian Working With Children Check.
  • High-level knowledge of AOD harm reduction needs and experience working with vulnerable populations.
  • Working knowledge of mental health and AOD issues.
  • Excellent communication skills.
