The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Harm Reduction Worker to provide assertive outreach and harm reduction services to individuals and groups.

Reporting to the Harm Reduction Van Coordinator, this is a casual position based in St Kilda, Victoria. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.

You will successfully- Work with the team to help ensure services provided align with The Salvation Army’s (TSA) alcohol and other drug (AOD) model of care and TSA policies and procedures.- Provide sterile injecting equipment to people who inject drugs.- Provide naloxone and overdose training opportunity to all clients accessing the outreach service.- Ensure clients are receiving integrated, holistic, culturally sensitive, responses to their needs.- Help develop and maintain strong relationships with the police, ambulance, and other professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of clients.- Support the Community Health Nurse in the provision of primary health care.- Identify unmet needs and provide referrals and information for mental health, housing and other relevant services.

You will have-
- A valid Victorian Drivers Licence (desirable).- A current Victorian Working With Children Check.-
- A working knowledge of the relationship between mental health and AOD issues.- Excellent communication skills.
