Responsibilities:

The role will involve, but not be limited to:

  1. Research and prepare advice on employment issues, workplace relations, legislation, and agreements.
  2. Contribute to designing and implementing strategies to improve departmental outcomes when managing complex sensitive people matters, staff engagement, and workplace consultation.
  3. Represent the department in dealings with unions and other stakeholders.
  4. Assist in the preparation of enterprise agreements, HR Policies, and employment contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, processes, and better practice.
  5. Support team initiatives and contribute to a positive team culture.

Stakeholder Relationships:

The role requires developing and maintaining productive stakeholder relationships, and assisting senior staff to effectively negotiate with key stakeholders.

Written Communication:

The role involves preparing written material including executive briefs, corporate documentation, findings of fact, and formal communications relating to employee conduct and performance.

Professional Advice:

Employees of DPS are required to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.
