Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Junior Sous Chef to join our Conference & Events team. As a Junior Sous Chef, you will be responsible for supporting the Chef de Cuisine and Sous Chefs in the day-to-day running of the department, ensuring an open line of communication between the team, management, and guests, and mentoring and supporting the Demi's, Commis, Apprentices & Cooks in the team for retention and individual growth.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support the Chef de Cuisine and Sous Chefs in the day-to-day running of the department, ensuring that all kitchen operations are running smoothly and efficiently.
  2. Ensure an open line of communication between the team, management, and guests, ensuring that all concerns and issues are addressed promptly and professionally.
  3. Mentor and support the Demi's, Commis, Apprentices & Cooks in the team, providing guidance and training to help them develop their skills and achieve their full potential.
  4. Ensure consistency across every meal coming out of the kitchen, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards and presented in a visually appealing way.

Requirements

  1. Proven experience as a Chef and relevant tertiary qualifications, such as Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery.
  2. Knowledge of a variety of high-volume cooking styles, including menu planning, food preparation, and kitchen management.
  3. Strong understanding of produce, culinary techniques, and kitchen equipment, including cooking methods, food safety, and kitchen hygiene.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with colleagues, management, and guests.
  5. Full working rights to commit to a minimum of 40 hours per week working varied shifts, including weekends, public holidays, late nights, and early mornings.
