About the Role

The YMCA Brisbane is seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join our team. As a key member of our Corporate Services department, you will be responsible for providing financial expertise and support to ensure the effective management of our organisation's finances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and budgets to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Support the month-end board reporting process to provide stakeholders with up-to-date financial information.
  • Perform reconciliations of accounts and investigate any discrepancies to ensure the accuracy of our financial records.
  • Analyse financial data and maintain complex spreadsheets to provide insights that inform business decisions.
  • Prepare and post end-of-month journals, prepayments, accruals, and provisions, along with preparing the necessary supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance with financial regulations and procedures.
  • Assist in the implementation of financial policies and procedures to ensure the effective management of our finances.
  • Participate in financial audits and provide necessary documentation and support.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and systems to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CA certification is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
