The Financial Accounting team at Peabody Energy Corporation is responsible for ensuring the financial compliance and governance of the company's operations. As a Senior Accounting Professional, you will play a critical role in providing technical accounting advice and support to the team.
Key Responsibilities- Investigate complex accounting issues and provide technical accounting advice to ensure compliance with IFRS and US GAAP standards.
- Proactively stay up-to-date with emerging accounting matters and communicate these to the broader financial team.
- Contribute to the timely delivery of IFRS statutory financial reporting and US GAAP financial reporting processes.
- Assist with the application of lease accounting standards for both IFRS and US GAAP, including contract review and maintenance of lease accounting software information.
- Participate in periodic impairment reviews and prepare impairment models under both IFRS and US GAAP.
- Assist with IFRS to US GAAP differences and liaise with the broader finance team to ensure these are reconciled/updated as required.
- Provide support with the annual and half-year IFRS statutory financial reporting process.
- Assist with the accurate, efficient, and timely preparation of general-purpose financial reports and management reports for various companies within the Australian group.
- Assist with preparing annual solvency statements and associated compliance requirements.
- Ensure full compliance and management of deed of cross guarantee, in conjunction with the internal legal team.
- Liaise with internal tax and legal teams, as well as external auditors.
- Provide support to the broader Financial Accounting team as required, including processing journal entries and preparation of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Drive continuous improvement of processes and procedures for improved efficiency and service delivery.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accounting Professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, or Accounting.
- Qualifications as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA).
- A solid understanding of IFRS and US GAAP accounting standards, with a detailed understanding of variances between IFRS and US GAAP, preferably as they relate to the mining industry.
- SAP experience and strong Excel capabilities.
- At least 5 years of post-graduate experience in large accounting firms or commerce, with previous mining company experience being advantageous.
- Experience working in financial reporting and providing technical accounting advice, with audit experience being advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail and understanding of internal controls and SOX requirements.
- SEC, ASX, or similar public reporting experience is preferred but not essential.
- Experience working with external auditors.
- Ability to build positive working relationships across functions and locations with strong communication skills.
- Ability to question the status quo and engage in process improvement.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills to quickly and effectively resolve issues.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
