Job Summary

Framestore is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Creature FX TD to join our Melbourne studio. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Creature FX TDs and overseeing the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of skin, muscle, cloth, and hair simulations for our hero and secondary characters and creatures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of Creature FX TDs to ensure high-quality results and efficient workflow.
  • Provide expert feedback and troubleshooting on shots to ensure technical accuracy and artistic integrity.
  • Develop and maintain simulation rigs and setups, and run simulations, perform technical animation, and shot sculpting for shots in production.
  • Creatively troubleshoot and solve complex problems independently, and receive and address technical and creative feedback from supervisors and lead.
  • Work efficiently as part of a team or independently to complete assigned shots, meeting schedules and deadlines while maintaining the highest standards.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Currently performing as a Senior or Lead level Creature FX TD with a high level of proficiency in industry-standard software such as Maya and/or Houdini.
  • Good knowledge of nCloth, nHair, and/or Vellum, and excellent sense for physically based motion and understanding of animation principles.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex topics relevant to Creature FX and connected departments, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and willingness to multi-task, and working knowledge of Python (and/or Mel).
  • 5 years of experience in film/animation/VFX, and experience with Ziva Dynamics, Houdini, Marvelous Designer, rigging, and Linux is highly desirable.
