Wētā FX is seeking a highly skilled Senior Visual Effects Artist to join our Look Development team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing surfacing solutions for feature films and other projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement visually stunning and realistic surface solutions for characters, creatures, environments, and props.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including Lighting and FX, to ensure seamless integration of surface solutions.
  • Work with our proprietary tools to manipulate shading networks, debug rendering setups, and provide support to other departments.
  • Paint textures for a variety of assets, from characters and creatures to environments and props.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of physically based shading and rendering techniques.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in surface development and visual effects.
  • Lead and mentor junior artists to ensure the success of the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in feature film or comparable visual effects production.
  • Strong artistic skills, as demonstrated by a portfolio or showreel.
  • Excellent understanding of physically based shading and rendering techniques.
  • Strong initiative and problem-solving skills to work efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work from reference and interpret artistic direction.
  • Experience with Mari, Substance Designer, and other industry-standard tools.
  • Working knowledge of Python scripting and Houdini/Solaris.
  • Familiarity with USD and other industry-standard pipelines.
