Job Summary

The Underwriter, Cyber will be responsible for delivering a profitable 'Underwriting' service to clients. Key tasks include underwriting business within agreed business plans and individual authorities, supporting business planning and forecasting processes, and monitoring financial exposures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review complex submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports, to determine the degree of risk for each account.
  • Calculate risk premiums by considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions, and underwriting administration costs, ensuring profitability.
  • Advise, assist, and service clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
  • Manage relationships with brokers and clients to initiate opportunities for cross-selling and ensure account retention.
  • Determine appropriate reinsurance for risk placements on an excess of loss and quota share basis.
  • Support business planning and forecasting processes, monitor financial exposures, and ensure premium income remains within set limits.
  • Maintain awareness of all claims advised and provide input on settlement of claims.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, underwriting assistants, and management teams to achieve business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred and equivalent experience in the relevant class of business.
  • Ability to perform tasks according to established procedures and exercise discretion.
  • Use judgment to identify and solve day-to-day problems in straightforward situations.
  • Marketing skills to plan for sales and business development, integrating various techniques and tools to support profitable business growth.
  • Negotiation and sales skills to plan, structure, and conduct negotiations with brokers and clients.
  • Analytical skills to visualize, gather information, articulate, analyze, and solve complex problems.
  • Interpersonal skills to build relationships with brokers, clients, and colleagues, improving personal profile and reputation within AXA XL and the market.
  • Strategy and planning skills to make underwriting decisions, fulfill business strategic plans, and deliver results.
  • Industry knowledge of the insurance industry and product portfolios to positively impact the underwriting business.
