The Service Management Office (SMO) function of UNSW exists to deliver the strategic and operational service management support to UNSW.

The Senior Specialist - Service Configuration Management (SCM) is responsible for enabling a better central management of Configuration Item (CI) configurations and their technical data that can be fed into other practices (e.g.

Cyber), to drive better compliance and risk identification.

The Senior Specialist - SCM ensures that the CI data structures within the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) are sufficient to provide linkages between CI's and also coordinates with the IT Asset Management (ITAM) Manager to ensure that asset managers and administrators are uploading the correct data.


Responsibilities

  • Manage the Asset and Configuration Management Lifecycle to successful completion, through developing and deploying a common and standard process throughout the University, influencing and guiding the behaviours of IT staff and key business stakeholders.
  • Negotiate and manage the endtoend process Configuration Items whilst ensuring ownership and accountability for the implementation of all deliverable outcomes.
  • Manage the definition, development, maintenance and distribution of configuration management plans.
  • Manage the maintenance and integrity of data quality and the CM database, and analyse configuration issues and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Develop configuration management tools and assist in the maintenance of these tools.
  • Ensure quality assurance of Configuration Manager Database records and verify accuracy of database against physical environment to meet audit requirements.
  • Develop and deliver statistical and management reporting to the SMO for distribution to various stakeholders, including recommendations for process improvements.
  • Be the primary contact and key escalation point for the business & IT stakeholders through influential input with stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.

  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others
Skills and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience in technology related roles or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate (mandatory).
  • Extensive experience working with Asset and Configuration Management systems and process implementation with Service Management tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in latest Windows/Desktop Operating Systems, Networking and SQL from a user perspective.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously, managing conflicting deadlines and programs of work whilst also driving process improvement and overall accountability of the SCM.
  • Demonstrated high level negotiation and collaboration skills with a strong ability to negotiate and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively and collaboratively on a range of continuous improvement initiatives with a range of technical/nontechnical people and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Advanced communication skills when focusing on customer satisfaction using customercentric approaches to customer management.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
