The Role

As part of a connected People & Culture team, the Junior Payroll Specialist will play a vital role in ensuring that all our David Jones store, support centre and fulfilment centre employees are paid correctly and on-time. This is an exciting a rare fixed-term opportunity for 12 months to play a vital role in ensuring that our David Jones store, support centre and fulfilment centre team members are paid accurately and on-time.

With a hybrid mix of time in the office and from home, this role will suit a curious, approachable and passionate payroll professional with a positive, can-do attitude, with high attention-to-detail and accuracy in processes.

What does the role involve?

  • Ensuring all employees are paid within legislative, award and enterprise agreement guidelines
  • Administering employee/employer deductions, contributions, and benefits
  • Managing and maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records
  • Managing employee transfers
  • Maintaining effective internal and external customers/user relationships within own area of responsibility in line with timeframe agreed with customer
  • Providing mentorship support to Payroll Specialists and Officers
  • Other Ad-hoc duties as required/directed by senior payroll leaders

Please note, this is a fixed term contract role for 12 months. 

Who are we looking for?

  • Ideally experience working in a high-volume payroll function, preferably within a retail environment
  • Experience with PayGlobal or Empower payroll systems will be highly regarded, but not essential
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills including V-look ups and formulas 
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills with customer service ethos
  • A passion for payroll and an interest to learn and develop on the job
