**About the Role**
The function of the Case Reporting Unit (CRU) is:
- To examine and report on analysis of crime exhibits for biological material
- To attend crime scenes
- To provide expert evidence in court.
- To participate in activities around the operation of the National Criminal Investigation DNA Database (NCIDD) and the NCIDD-Integrated Forensic Analysis (NIFA) database.
Note: based on business need, this role may include transfer for defined periods to other work units within BSG.
**Key Accountabilities include**:
- Undertake routine biological casework as part of a team.
- Attend and examine crime scenes and manage associated casework.
- Undertake the interpretation of examinations and DNA profiles, initiate problem identification and develop methods and procedures.
- Maintain equipment, instruments, laboratory space and document performance with respect to quality control criteria.
- Quality checking of DNA database links
- Reporting of DNA database links to the Victoria Police DNAMU
- Provide recommendations to management on administrative, scientific and database procedures as appropriate.
- Provide general administrative assistance, respond to customer enquiries, maintain computerised records and compile statistical reports
- Participate in accreditation duties and obligations as required.
- Present expert opinion evidence in Courts of Law relating to multi-disciplinary skills in an impartial and concise manner
- Maintain appropriate knowledge of Victoria Police and Department policies, procedures and legislation.
**Skills & Experience**
- Scientific/technical achievement, ability to interpret examinations and to successfully present technical and discipline related knowledge and advice to scientific/technical and non-scientific personnel at all levels, particularly in a Court context.
- Proven commitment to quality in casework and/or research or the ability to provide it.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and/or within a team environment.
- Ability to conduct scene examinations where little or no supervisory advice is available.
- Demonstrated Conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- An understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs.
- A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Organisational Values.
**Requirements and relevant information**:
- Ongoing FO-3 positions available.
- Position is located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod.
- A relevant tertiary qualification is required.
- Bachelor of Science Degree, preferably with a major in Molecular Biology and Genetics or equivalent.
- Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.
