**About the role**:
The Victoria Police Forensic Services Department is an accredited laboratory that provides a professional forensic service to Victoria Police, persons involved with the administration of justice and the public.
The function of the Drug Analysis Unit is to provide evidential analysis on exhibits suspected of containing an illicit drug, attend crime scenes and provide expert evidence in court.

**Your duties will include**:

- Conduct analysis using prescribed methods and procedures, manage case work and author reports.
- Convey specialist knowledge and judgement that impacts on legal deliberations and/or investigations including in the court context where opinion evidence is required.
- Deliver discipline related presentations.
- Attend, and examine crime scenes, and process related samples.
- Make qualified judgements that impact on the subsequent investigation and legal deliberations associated with casework.
- Assist in research and development, and training and development of staff by communicating professional/scientific/technical concepts.
- Supervise other staff as required.
- Where appropriate interpret results of analysis and undertake technical reviews of casework.
- Monitor and administer local contracts and service agreements within a well-defined service delivery framework.
- Solve problems that may require specialist knowledge in a number of scientific/technical fields.

**As the successful applicant, you will have**:

- Scientific/technical achievement, the ability to interpret examinations and successfully present technical and discipline related knowledge and advice to scientific/technical and non-scientific personnel at all levels, particularly in a Court context.
- Proven commitment to quality in casework and/or research or the ability to provide it.
- Proven ability to work autonomously and/or within a team environment.
- Ability to conduct scene examinations where little or no supervisory advice is available.
- Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.

- The position will be located at 31 Forensic Drive Macleod 3085.
