Botany Unit Role

The Botany Unit attends scenes, examines plant material, and provides scientific expertise, education, and research in botanically related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine casework, attend crime scenes, and support evidence processing functions using defined methods and procedures.
  • Promote quality management practices through reviews, analysis results, and audits.
  • Present expert opinion evidence in Courts of Law in an impartial and concise manner.
  • Make qualified judgments in providing specialist advice to key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance.
  • Assist with supervising and coordinating scientific/technical functions, including team leadership.
  • Support business management reporting, data collection, validation, and statistics generation.
  • Provide technical guidance on standard procedures and assist with internal and external training activities.
  • Contribute to research and development projects that improve and expand Group methodology.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, and laboratory accreditation requirements.

Working as a Forensic Caseworker
