Forensic Caseworker - Drug Analysis Unit
Victoria Police's Forensic Services Department is an accredited laboratory that provides a professional forensic service to various stakeholders. The primary function of the Drug Analysis Unit is to provide evidential analysis on exhibits suspected of containing illicit drugs, attend crime scenes and deliver expert evidence in court.
The role necessitates the ability to conduct analysis using prescribed methods and procedures, manage case work and author reports. Essential skills include conveying specialist knowledge and judgement that impacts legal deliberations and/or investigations, including in the court context where opinion evidence is required.
- Deliver discipline-related presentations;
- Attend and examine crime scenes;
- Process samples;
- Make qualified judgements that impact subsequent investigations and legal deliberations associated with casework;
- Communicate professional/scientific/technical concepts for research and development, training and development of staff;
- Supervise other staff as required;
- Interpret results of analysis and undertake technical reviews of casework when necessary;
- Monitor and administer local contracts and service agreements within a well-defined service delivery framework.
Successful applicants will possess excellent communication and analytical skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise manner. They will be able to work effectively in a team environment, prioritizing tasks and managing competing deadlines to meet quality standards.
