The opportunity

Cancer Council WA is offering a unique opportunity for a Community Engagement Coordinator, specialising in Food and Alcohol policies, to join our Cancer Prevention & Research Division. Reporting to the Alcohol Program Manager, you will lead the coordination of community engagement strategies as part of our Increasing Healthy Eating and Preventing Harm from Alcohol initiatives.

This role is dynamic and fast paced where two days are never the same. You'll be out in the community, building meaningful connections and supporting people to act on the issues that matter, whether that's reducing junk food and alcohol advertising, standing up to unhealthy development proposals, or pushing for policies that make our neighborhoods healthier places to live, work, and play. We believe that lasting change starts from the ground up.

Based in Subiaco, this position is full-time and fixed-term until June 2027.

What you'll be doing:


• Build and maintain strong relationships with communities to elevate their voices in public health advocacy, with a focus on promoting healthy eating and reducing alcohol-related harm.


• Identify and engage community advocates who align with our policy goals, supporting their involvement in public health campaigns.


• Develop practical resources, such as guides and training materials, to empower community members to act on food and alcohol policy issues.


• Collaborate with stakeholders and partner organisations that work directly with communities to improve health and wellbeing.


• Represent the organisation at community events, expositions, and networking opportunities to build visibility and foster connections.

About you

To be successful in this role, you'll need:


• Tertiary qualification in a health-related field, community services, or a relevant discipline.


• Minimum of 3 years' experience in community engagement, with a strong track record of designing and delivering effective strategies and initiatives.


• Experience in health promotion policy is highly desirable, particularly in the areas of obesity prevention and reducing alcohol-related harm.


• Proven ability to lead community engagement projects that achieve meaningful outcomes.


• Strong knowledge of public health issues, especially those relating to healthy eating and alcohol harm prevention, is an advantage.


• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.


• Skilled in preparing high-quality written materials tailored to diverse audiences.


• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.


• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA.
