The opportunity

Are you passionate about community health and social impact? We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Engagement Project Officer to help drive progress in cancer prevention across Western Australia. In this role, you will work at the intersection of public health, retail engagement, and social change to contribute to a cancer-free future.

Based in Subiaco, this position is part time contract (0.6 FTE) for 12 months with a possibility of extension.

What you'll be doing:


• Undertaking fieldwork for a research project through identifying, building, and managing relationships with small local retailers to promote cancer prevention initiatives.


• Engage with staff at small local retailers across the Perth metropolitan area—both in person and over the phone—to promote cancer prevention initiatives and encourage participation.


• Regularly update and maintain content on the project website to ensure information is current and accessible


• Collect and report on community feedback and engagement outcomes.


• Provide accurate and timely reports as required.


• Ad hoc administrative tasks as required.


• Represent Cancer Council WA at appropriate meetings, seminars and other events.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:


• A tertiary qualification in a health related or community services or communications/marketing profession is desirable.


• Demonstrated high-level interpersonal and verbal communication skills, and demonstrated ability to represent an organisation in a public-facing role.


• Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a diverse range of stakeholders, including small business owners, retail staff, and researchers.


• Familiarity with retail or customer-facing environments.


• Experience in community engagement, public health, or retail/community partnership work.


• Work unsupervised and within a team environment


• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA.


• Advanced proficiency in a range of software applications, including Microsoft Outlook, Word (with expertise in mail merge), Excel (skilled in functions and pivot tables), PowerPoint, and Teams


• Passion for social justice, health equity, and preventing tobacco-related harm.


• C-class Australian driver's licence
