The Vector and Biosecurity Services unit delivers a range of vital responsibilities on behalf of the City under the Biosecurity Act 2014 and the Queensland Public Health Act.

We implement best-practice programs for mosquito management across City facilities, parks, and public spaces.

About the Role

The Vector Control Technical Officer plays a key role in delivering mosquito management programs that protect the City of Gold Coast community and maintain our renowned lifestyle.

In this position, you will support the delivery of surveillance, treatment, and control activities, with a strong focus on drone operations, adulticiding, and aerial mosquito treatment programs. You will also provide technical advice, collect and analyse program data, and ensure all operations are conducted safely, effectively, and in line with legislative and organisational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver vector control programs, including drone operations and adulticiding, with responsibilities for scheduling, contractor and fatigue management, recording, and reporting.
  • Provide in-field management of aerial mosquito treatment operations, including oversight of contractors and ensuring compliance with safety and operational requirements.
  • Undertake vector surveillance and monitoring activities, including larval habitat inspections, trapping, and species identification.
  • Use field and desktop software to input data, analyse results, and prepare operational reports for the Vector Control Supervisor.
  • Maintain and operate specialist field equipment, including traps, sprayers, vehicles, and GPS devices.
  • Support contractor engagement, monitoring, and compliance in line with City of Gold Coast policies, and provide technical advice to stakeholders, residents, and community groups on mosquito management and vector-borne disease risk reduction.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of operational programs and support research or pilot projects on emerging technologies, while ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety, environmental legislation, and Council policies.

About You

  • Diploma (Science) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience in a similar role with a demonstrated understanding of vector control programs
  • Statement of Attainment (Basics of Mosquito Control) – Desired
