What you'll be doing
Primarily responsible for the provision of assessment and therapy services to inpatients of
Sydney Children's Hospital referred for behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. Referring teams include, but are not limited to, Respiratory, General Medicine, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, Immunology, Orthopaedics and Infectious Diseases. Inpatients are a priority, however where time permits the Clinical Psychologist may also consult to outpatient clinics, including but not limited to the Irritable Bowel Disease, Feeding, Surgical Bowel and Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula clinics.
The Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick Psychology Department is seeking to recruit a temporary part-time Clinical Psychologist, 22 hours per week until to provide psychological assessment and therapeutic interventions, primarily to inpatients. The caseload is complex and highly variable. The Clinical Psychologist works closely with multiple clinical teams and psychology colleagues to promote optimal outcomes for patients. This position is shared with another Clinical Psychologist in the department. The Psychology Department has an established culture of collegiality, respect, reflective practice, professional supervision and support.
About You
Describe the qualities and attributes of an ideal candidate, followed by specific skills and qualifications.
- Full Registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Full endorsement with the Psychology Board of Australia in the area of Clinical Psychology or eligible to progress to same with the Psychology Board of Australia
- Minimum two-year full-time equivalent accredited postgraduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology
- Experience in paediatric psychological assessment and therapy
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of emotional, social and behavioural issues that can arise for children with complex and/or chronic medical conditions.
Applicants currently enrolled in a combined Masters/PhD are eligible to apply if they have completed the equivalent of Masters degree requirements as part of the PhD pathway. Evidence of this is demonstrated by a completed PDEC-76 form and cover letter from the University confirming Masters degree requirements have been met.
Applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed an accredited Masters degree and are awaiting their graduation ceremony. Written confirmation from the University is required.
Successful applicants who have completed the Masters degree or Masters degree requirements and are awaiting full registration from the Psychology Board of Australia will be paid at Year 2 of the Psychologist Scale until they have full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, at which point they will commence on Year 1 of the Clinical Psychologist scale.
