Shooting Stars is a school-based education engagement program for Aboriginal girls and young women. Founded in 2015, Shooting Stars is the primary initiative of Glass Jar Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that comes under the wider umbrella of Netball WA.
Now based within 22 schools across Western Australia and South Australia, Shooting Stars reaches over 1,200 girls and young women, building confidence, cultural identity, and positive connections through engagement activities, health and wellbeing sessions and enrichment programs. The team of staff, most of whom are Aboriginal women, walk alongside the Shooting Stars participants throughout their schooling journeys, while offering support, advocacy, and guidance to ensure they are empowered to make informed decisions and drive their own futures.
Roles and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Enrichment & Development Manager (EDM), the Shooting Stars Enrichment and Development Coordinator (EDC) is a key supporting role within the Shooting Stars Enrichment team responsible for supporting the development, and coordination of the Shooting Stars Enrichment suite of programs alongside the EDM.
A close working relationship with Shooting Stars operational staff, GJA/Netball WA staff, and other stakeholders will be essential to the successful achievement of this position's objectives and the continued empowerment of Aboriginal girls across Australia.
The key responsibilities for the EDC role are:
- Assist in the collection of pre and post program data for reporting
- Provide project management, coordination, and support for the delivery of enrichment programs.
- Design, adapt, and deliver interactive enrichment activities, toolboxes, resources, and training for site-based staff and participants.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and guidance to build facilitation skills, confidence, and culturally safe practices among staff.
- Support the development and maintenance of culturally safe, trauma-informed, and evidence-informed program content that reflects the needs and experiences of Aboriginal girls and young women in regional and remote communities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of facilitation methods, engagement strategies, youth development approaches, and program evaluation practices.
- Work collaboratively and foster relationships with Shooting Stars staff, school staff, community stakeholders and other service providers
- Develop supportive relationships with Shooting Stars participants
- Any other duties within the Employees capabilities and which is reasonable to expect the Employee to undertake as directed by the GJA Executive Officer from time to time

- A commitment to and experience in advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation through provision of services in rural and remote communities
- A comprehensive understanding of a trauma-informed response and demonstrated experience in working with at risk, young people in an education, sporting and/or career context
- Strong time management, and the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks
- Excellent computer skills and information technology literacy with a range of software applications
- Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and self-management skills
- Ability to work independently and part of a broader team
- Preparedness to be flexible in respect to work hours and travel
- Current WA driver's licence
- Working with Children Check
- Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check Clearance (NCCHS)
