About the opportunity

There is currently one (1) full time, permanent position available for immediate filling.

As a Regional Biosecurity Coordinator, you will lead a team of Biosecurity Officers to implement biosecurity programs that identify, prevent, and respond to risks threatening Western Australia's agriculture, environment, and economy. You will manage projects and emergency responses, ensuring compliance with legislation and maintaining high standards of animal welfare and product integrity. Your role will involve coordinating surveillance and control of invasive species, investigating non-compliance, collaborating with stakeholders, providing expert advice, and contributing to policy and operational improvements.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Biosecurity Officers to implement biosecurity programs that identify, prevent, and respond to risks threatening WA's agriculture, environment, and economy.
  • Manage projects and emergency responses, ensuring compliance with legislation and maintaining high standards of animal welfare and product integrity.
  • Coordinate surveillance and control of invasive species, investigate non-compliance, and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice and contribute to policy and operational improvements.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in biosecurity, providing technical knowledge and support; knowledge of regulatory and inspection activities to prevent or manage risk from pests affecting animals, plants, and terrestrial environments.
  • Well-developed knowledge of invasive plant and animal species that threaten the community, environment and economy.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management with strong interpersonal, negotiating, and communication skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
