Reporting to the Western Australia State Office Assistant Director, and working with the Region Lead, your role as an Australian Government Program officer will be to support Local Jobs program and Job Coordinators in the Broome, Geraldton and Kalgoorlie Employment Regions. You will do this in a remote capacity from the Western Australian state office, on occasion travel to the various employment regions will be required, when on the ground support is needed.

Working as a team, you will respond to challenges and take advantage of opportunities to improve the labour market in your region. The Australian Government Job Coordinators connects, collaborates and coordinates with stakeholders to identify and act on local labour market priorities. As the Program Officer, you will provide the Australian Government Job Coordinator with administrative support to help them manage their time and keep them organised while they are on the road. At other times you may be engaging directly with stakeholders.

The Program Officer role will cater to your administrative strengths, while offering development opportunities in stakeholder engagement, communication, and networking skills.

**Skills and Capabilities**
As the Program Officer you will be required to:

- provide administrative support to the Australian Government Job Coordinators, including organising travel, stakeholder meetings and events, as well as undertaking secretariate duties for meetings
- prepare written material, including drafting reports, communication products, responding to stakeholder enquiries, as well as updating and managing social media accounts
- represent the Australian Government and build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships. This includes travel to engage with stakeholders across the region and surrounds as needed
- have knowledge of programs and initiatives that support job seekers, workers, employers and communities to work through challenges and opportunities within the region
- work independently with limited assistance and as part of a virtual team to achieve results
- contribute to policy development and identify continuous improvement opportunities
- use sound judgement to identify opportunities and manage risks, as well as comply with relevant Australian Government processes, guidelines, and policies.
- Work collaboratively with the WA State Office to deliver state-based operational activities, engagement activities and identify employment and skills opportunities within the regions.

**The Opportunity**
This position is available to Ongoing Department of Employment and Workplace Relations and/or APS employees as a temporary transfer at level and/or a temporary performance (Acting) opportunity for a period of 12 months.

**Qualifications and Education**
- A current Australian driver’s licence, own vehicle and home internet is essential.
- A relevant state Working with Vulnerable People check (or ability to attain one) is essential for this role.
