**About our Team**
Information Sciences Division (ISD) undertakes research and development focused on identifying, analysing, and countering threats to Australia’s Defence and national security through electronic means. Contested Communications is a Major Science & Technology Capability (MSTC) within ISD.
Contested Communications MSTC’s mission is to develop survivable tactical communications and electronic warfare solutions for contested and degraded cyber electromagnetic environments.
Communications Electronic Warfare (CEW) Group within CC MSTC researches, develops, verifies and facilitates the transition of advanced wireless communications Electronic Warfare techniques to Australian Defence and National Security operational capability. The group maintains scientific leadership in CEW Electronic Attack and Electronic Support related disciplines through long-term research, support to operations, capability development and provision of expert advice.
The NAVWAR discipline in CEW Group undertakes research and development of, and provides science and technology (S&T) advice on, technologies, systems and techniques that provide positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) capabilities in the Australian Defence Force through Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), primarily via the Global Positioning System (GPS). There is a specific focus on Navigation Warfare.
Activities include:
- Researching, developing, and testing methods to protect PNT capability in contested environments;
- Researching, developing, and testing methods to limit adversarial capability by exploiting PNT vulnerabilities;
- Researching and developing new techniques and technologies, which may enhance future PNT capability in the ADF.
PNT is a fundamental input into Defence capability. Warfighters and platforms need to know where they are, where they are going and when they are doing it. PNT research touches virtually all areas of the ADF.
