**The Role**
As a Discipline Lead you will lead a research activity and inspire a small team of scientists, engineers and technicians to achieve outcomes for Defence. You will supervise and mentor staff to promote a healthy culture that values staff, innovation and excellence in science. Using your specialist knowledge and expertise you will:

- Identify and implement solutions to Defence and National Security problems;
- Develop skills and a work program that is able to deliver high quality Science & Technology outcomes that impact client capability;
- Report research findings to Defence partners and the scientific community.

**Highly desirable qualifications, relevant experience or training**

A degree or higher qualification in any one of the following, or related, areas: Computer Science; Engineering, Applied Mathematics; Information Technology; Artificial Intelligence.

Additional qualifications and/or relevant skills and work experience in one or more of the following technical areas is highly desirable:

- Machine learning for analysis of complex data
- Machine intelligence for the control of complex systems
- Cyberspace operations / cyber warfare
- Command and control
- Software development
- User interfaces for visualization of complex data

We are seeking someone who is highly experienced and self-motivated to lead our research into data, artificial intelligence and machine learning to support decision superiority for our warfighters. You will contribute to this mission by growing APS staff in the disciplines of exploratory data analysis, synthetic data generation, artificial intelligence test and evaluation and model assessment and reporting.

**Highly desirable qualifications, relevant experience or training**
A Bachelor’s degree, Masters or PhD in a relevant science, mathematics or engineering discipline including, but not limited to: Computer Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science, Systems Engineering, and Mathematics.

Extensive, demonstrable experience in the development of innovative S&T in AI/ML and associated technologies; including consideration for T&E, transition and scale within Defence environments; along with a strong background in applied AIML, particularly related to the preparation and exploitation of data and test and evaluation of ML models.
