**Computer Systems Support Officer**
**The Opportunity**
As a Computer Systems Support Officer, you will provide system and web administration services to the Trustworthy Systems group. The group manages Linux-based PCs, Macs, and Windows machines, along with several servers and test machines, which vary widely in power, manufacturer, processor architecture, and use. The group also maintains several websites, which consist of both manually maintained (but revision-controlled) and automatically generated pages. Additionally, the group conducts continuous integration testing on various embedded and server architectures.
This role reports to Trustworthy Systems Senior Consultant, Peter Chubb and has no direct reports.
- Salary:
- Level 5: $85,717 to $96,991 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Level 6: $100,354 to $107,054 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Full time
- Fixed term - 12 months
- Location: Kensington - Sydney, Australia

**Skills and Experience**
**Level 5**
- An honours degree or equivalent in IT or a related discipline, or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
- Highly self-motivated and ability to learn new technologies quickly
- Willingness to comply with EEO and WHS standards.
- Experience in maintaining and configuring Linux systems, networks and firewalls
- Experience with scripting languages, especially Python and Bourne Shell
- Experience with Linux build environments and revision control systems (especially Mercurial and Git)
- Experience with configuring web servers and proxies
- Effective interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work with in a team, and collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
- Experience in the following is desirable but not essential:
- Debian and Ubuntu
- Embedded ARM platforms
- PERL programming
- Postgres, openLDAP, Apache2, NGINX, bind9, isc-dhcpd, exim4
- Building and deploying cross-compilers
**Level 6 (in addition to the above)**
- Experience in several of the following:
- Debian and Ubuntu system management
- Installing operating systems on embedded ARM platforms, platform bring-up
- PERL programming
- Experience using Postgres, openLDAP, Apache2, NGINX, bind9, isc-dhcpd, exim4
- Building and deploying cross-compilers
- Analysing, diagnosing and fixing network performance issues
- Detecting and defending network denial-of-service attacks
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and be responsible for working project timelines.
- A demonstrable track record of project work experience in professional system administration.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and solve diverse and unusual problems.
