High Performance Computing Production Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled High Performance Computing Production Engineer to join our global team in Sydney. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on individual with a strong software development background, skilled in managing Linux environments and designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting high performance compute and storage systems.

  • Design, implement, maintain, and support high performance compute and storage systems, including parallel filesystems, batch systems, and high-performance network interconnects.
  • Implement and support performance monitoring and fault monitoring systems, ensuring optimal system uptime and reliability.
  • Monitor systems and storage performance, up to and including network components, to identify areas for improvement.
  • Build tooling to compile, package, install, and upgrade software and operating system components at scale, utilizing system configuration management tools.
  • Collaborate with team members and across teams to write code and testing infrastructures spanning both new and existing codebases in multiple programming languages.
  • Develop and improve systems and user documentation to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Participate in large, coordinated maintenance operations, including during evenings and weekends, to minimize downtime and maximize system availability.
  • Work on global projects across a wide range of infrastructure, collaborating directly with researchers to optimize their use of HPC infrastructure.
  • Develop and monitor the tools used to maintain a production computing environment, ensuring they meet the needs of the business.

Key Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in high performance computing (HPC), including parallel filesystems, batch systems, and high-performance network interconnects.
  • Extensive experience with Linux systems administration, including system configuration management tools.
  • High proficiency with at least one programming/scripting language, such as Go, Python, or C.
  • Experience with system profiling and debugging, using tools like debuggers and profilers.
  • A strong analytical mindset, with a compulsion to perform root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
