The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating to all why these places are so special, and inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future.

Australia has one of the largest networks of marine parks in the world. Marine parks protect the diversity of life in our oceans-from astonishing coral reefs in our tropical seas to deep ocean canyons and undersea mountains in temperate marine regions. This branch oversees the ongoing management of Marine Park Networks, Christmas Island and Pulu Keeling National Parks, Norfolk Island National Park, Authorisations and Compliance.

The Christmas Island and Pulu Keeling National Parks section is responsible for day-to-day management of protected areas (National and marine parks) within the Indian Ocean Territories of Australia.

**The Job**
- Data management and analysis.
- Coordinating data collection and data analysis.
- Building capacity of field officers to undertake mobile field data collection.
- Building and/or using and managing web-based tools.
- Coordinating monitoring data management and analysis including:

- Tracking the implementation of management plans and strategies planning.
- Implementing and analysing of monitoring programs preparing briefs and technical documents, including preparing and/or contributing to peer reviewed scientific papers assisting in developing and implementing monitoring programs for the recovery of key threatened species.
- Leading and mentoring field staff in monitoring methods and data input collecting, managing, analysing and interpreting data and spatial information adapting programs according to new information undertaking procurements and recruitment associated with threatened or invasive species management projects.
- Monitoring and program evaluation.
- Assist the Director (Park manager) and assistant directors (Threatened species and operations managers) in the preparation of grant proposals, and monitoring and reporting the deliverables /expenditure of grant funds.
- Engage with management and external project partners to ensure a flow of quality data for research, program reporting and evaluation.
- Support research delivery, and design and deliver evaluations to understand the effectiveness of programs that supports decision making.
- Undertake internal and external reviews of evaluation and research reports.
- Develop new methodologies and source new datasets that will enable improvements in program evaluations and establish standard operating procedures for common tasks and annual programs.
- Develop and drive new initiatives that improve the reach and quality of monitoring.
- Disseminate monitoring work in technical reports, policy, relevant workshops, seminars and scientific journals.
- Connect with formal and informal networks on monitoring, evaluation, invasive and threatened species management, statistical analysis and GIS Represent CINP and Parks Australia on committees and task forces, including presenting the results of operations and/or research at forums, symposia, conferences and seminars.
- Effectively and positively contribute as a member of a team.
- Jointly lead, train and supervise field staff.
- Liaise with a wide range of stakeholders including researchers, government agencies and the community.

**Knowledge and Experience**
- Demonstrated experience in invasive species and threatened species management and monitoring.
- Strong data literacy and ability to critically appraise research, discern and interpret relationships between variables across multiple data types.
- Strong understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Demonstrated experience in planning and project management, and the development of work programs.
