Technical Product Designer

**About the role**

As the Technical Product Designer you will be responsible for the end to end ownership of product design solutions. You will work with a cohesive and engaged team who share ideas and engage in open problem solving. You will take ownership of design of new products, as well as the development of our existing product range for Scaffold and Fall Protection Systems. Buildsafe is the industry leader, continually bringing new ideas and innovation to the market, and you will spearhead this.

You will be responsible for;
- Ownership of product design and development, from concept to production hand-off
- Continuous product improvement to enable competitive advantage for Buildsafe
- Executing mechanical designs using Solidworks 3D software
- Working closely with the Technical Product Officer to seek feedback on product design requirements
- Provide technical expertise in fabrication methodologies including extrusions, die castings, plastic injection moulding, sheet metal
- Cost estimation and cost efficient design including communicating with manufacturers (both local and overseas)
- Oversee the manufacture of physical prototypes for testing
- Develop engineering drawings with detailed manufacturing and assembly specifications clearly communicated
- Define minimum quality performance criteria
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Quality Assurance on product cost and manufacturability and to resolve technical issues that may arise in manufacturing
- Maintain a working knowledge of the latest advancements in technology, design trends and engineering best practices

**About you**

You have strong stakeholder engagement and have a practical and persistent approach. You are known for your exceptional communication skills, both written and oral. You will not only have a passion for engineering design, but also possess a work ethic and enthusiasm to help drive projects to successful completion.

In order to be successful in this role you will bring:

- Proficiency in Solidworks software
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical or Product Design Engineering (desirable), please note you do not have to be a Mechanical Engineer
- Demonstrated career experience as a Product/Mechanical Designer
- Construction Industry Experience is highly regarded
- Innovative thinking with common sense and an engineering approach
- In depth understanding of manufacturing processes with an interest in new technologies
- Excellent conceptual design and visualization skills
- Sound knowledge of design and engineering principles and best practice manufacturing techniques
- Commercial Aptitude - able to understand commercial concepts
- Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment with evolving requirements
