About the Business Unit
Victim Services, Support and Reform (VSSR) is part of the Service Delivery Reform, Coordination and Workplace Safety Group with the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). VSSR is responsible for the delivery and reform of services to victims of crime, placing victims at the centre of the justice system. VSSR leads the development, design and implementation of innovative service responses to victims of crime in the criminal justice system.
About the role
The Intermediary program is a key component of the Victim Service Innovation in Criminal Justice portfolio within VSSR. The Intermediary Program uses skilled communication specialists (the intermediaries) to assist criminal justice system stakeholders to mee the communication needs of eligible witnesses giving evidence in police interviews and during court proceedings. The program transitioned to an ongoing program in 2021 after a succesful pilot phase and is now in a period of consolidation.
Reporting to a Lead Intermediary, you will provide specialist communication assistance to eligible witnesses. You will also provide mentoring and support to contract intermediaries. Eligible witnesses curerntly include those who are a victim of a sexual offence or a witness in a homicide, and are?
- under the age of 18
- an adult with a cognitive impairment
About you
This role requires a skilled and suitably qualified allied health professional who is flexible, inclusive, collaborative, and comitted to delivering high quality services. In undertaking their role, the Intermediary will utilise their understanding of the key issues faced by victims of crime to engage with a broad range of witnesses in ways that promote their wellbeing and reduces the trauma they may experience.
**To suceed in this role you will**:
- Have previous experience providing high-quality, evidence based intermediary services to witnesses in the criminal justice system with extensive professional experience working with (at least one of):
- Children and/or adults who have expreienced trauma
- Children and/or adults with complex mental health needs
- Children and/or adults with a cognitive disability
- Children and/or adults who have complex communication needs
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed practice and experience in practically implementing trauma-informed practice principles
- Experience in providing training, mentoring and/or consultancy to other professionals.

At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).
