Job Summary

The Planning Institute Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Urban Planner to join our team on a 12-month contract. As a Planning Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the planning and development activities of our organization.

About the Role

We are looking for a qualified candidate with a strong knowledge of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act, Planning and Design Code, and the operation of the Development Assessment Portal. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assessing a diverse range of planning applications
  • Preparing reports and attending meetings
  • Providing specialist planning advice and working positively with stakeholders to achieve progressive development outcomes
  • Undertaking inspections and investigations in relation to compliance
  • Responding to customer enquiries and external organizations regarding planning, development, and enforcement matters
  • Demonstrating high-level skills in communication, customer service, time management, problem-solving, and teamwork

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the planning and development activities of the organization
  • Providing specialist planning advice and guidance to stakeholders
  • Assessing and evaluating planning applications
  • Preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders
  • Developing and implementing planning policies and procedures

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A relevant and recognized planning qualification
  • A strong knowledge of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act, Planning and Design Code, and the operation of the Development Assessment Portal
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High-level skills in time management, problem-solving, and adaptability
