Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Urban Development Planner to join our team at Hume City Council. As a key member of our Planning and Development team, you will be responsible for assessing and appraising planning applications, providing guidance and advice to stakeholders, and representing the Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Appraisal: Assess and appraise the merits of planning applications, including the preparation of internal reports and reports to Council and Council's Delegate.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Provide guidance and advice to stakeholders, including applicants, developers, and Council Officers, on planning matters and discretionary decision-making.
  • Representation: Represent the Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, as required.
  • Communication: Respond to all applicant and customer enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports to Council and Council's Delegate on general planning matters, under minimal supervision.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications in Town Planning or a similar field, or relevant experience in Town Planning with lesser tertiary qualifications.
  • Skills: High level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to gain co-operation from and communicate effectively with the public and Council Officers from a range of diverse backgrounds, age groups, and cultures.
  • Experience: Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively on specialist matters with other Town Planners in the field, and other employees within the organisation.
