About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Town Planner to join our team at Planning Institute Australia. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in shaping the growth and direction of our planning practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a diverse range of statutory town planning projects for public and private sector clients, and manage multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Work with senior team members to manage budgets and plan the direction and focus for the town planning team.
  • Represent the company at external workshops, public consultation meetings, and client meetings.
  • Develop and maintain a strong client base across the public and private sectors.
  • Engage in proactive business development and marketing opportunities.
  • Collaborate with landscape, urban design, and media teams on masterplanning and strategic planning projects.
  • Lead and mentor the planning team, and contribute to the growth and development of the company.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Principal Town Planner who has:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in town planning and suitable experience in the Queensland planning system at Principal level, or equivalent.
  • An advanced understanding of the Planning Act 2016, Economic Development Act 2012, Development Assessment Rules, and other relevant legislation.
  • Experience in managing people and teams.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in statutory planning projects, including the ability to independently project manage and deal with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience in business development, or a willingness to undertake this role.
  • Awareness of current planning, development, economic, social, and environmental issues.
  • An enthusiastic, proactive, and commercial attitude.
  • A keenness to mentor team members.
  • The ability to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • A genuine passion for planning.
