Job Title: Principal Consultant

About the Role:

The Department of Education, Western Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our Curriculum, Assessment and Strategic Policy division, you will play a critical role in shaping the education landscape in Western Australia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage course syllabuses for languages from Years 7 to 12, including Aboriginal Languages of Western Australia, Italian, Japanese, and Korean.
  • Provide leadership in the development and review of curriculum, assessment, and standards support materials.
  • Monitor and review the implementation and delivery of curriculum, courses, and course standards.
  • Develop high-level curriculum expertise in the development of quality ATAR course examinations and marking keys.
  • Facilitate consultation and collaborative processes between school systems, schools, and other stakeholder organisations.
  • Manage contract writers and associated physical resources, ensuring compliance with legislated requirements.
  • Provide executive support for advisory committees and develop and implement moderation processes for secondary years of schooling.
  • Organise, facilitate, and coordinate seminars, school visits, and information sessions for staff from schools, regions, professional associations, systems, and sectors.

Eligibility:

  • Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
  • Consent to a National Criminal History Check with the Department's Screening Unit.
  • Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

    • Demonstrated high-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the WACE, ATAR course examinations, performance monitoring, and review.
    • Demonstrated substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting, and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
    • Demonstrated highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration, and negotiation.
