Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Assistant Director to lead our Freedom of Information (FOI) Section. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of FOI Case Officers, providing technical advice and assistance to staff, and supporting the continuous improvement of FOI capability across the Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead a team of FOI Case Officers, maintaining a positive working environment.
  • Set priorities and monitor case-loads, managing resources effectively to ensure compliance with statutory timeframes.
  • Provide high-quality technical FOI advice to authorized Decision Makers and Action Officers.
  • Manage Internal Reviews and Information Commissioner Reviews, as required.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including portfolio Ministers' offices, portfolio agencies, and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the FOI process within the Department.
Requirements
  • Strong technical knowledge of Commonwealth FOI legislation, with experience working with other legislation and legal concepts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Ability to think strategically, evaluate information, and make sound decisions.
  • Experience in managing teams and prioritizing competing priorities under pressure.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism, with a willingness to learn and develop.
