About the Role

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Assistant Directors to join our team at the Australian Department of Infrastructure and Transport. As an Assistant Director, you will play a critical role in supporting the implementation of the Government's aviation reform agenda, as outlined in the recently released Aviation White Paper.

About the Team

The International Aviation, Technology and Services (IATS) Division and the Domestic Aviation and Reform (DAR) Division are responsible for promoting an efficient, sustainable, safe, and competitive air transport system. The Divisions work together to maintain a competitive, sustainable, and safe aviation sector through appropriate regulation, program delivery, and policy development.

About the Work

As an Assistant Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Close consultation with external stakeholders and design and delivery of consultation processes and supporting documents
  • Developing co-design processes to ensure policy initiatives are developed with people with disability
  • Analysing the costs and benefits of potential policy and implementation options, including through regulatory impact analyses
  • Drafting advice to inform government decision making, such as Cabinet submissions, ministerial briefs, and new policy proposals
  • Working with relevant agencies to inform the drafting of supporting legislation, regulation, and standards
  • Project management to ensure delivery of initiatives within government-agreed timeframes

  • Experience in leading workstreams and capacity to operate with a high degree of autonomy

About the Eligibility Requirements

Employment with the Australian Department of Infrastructure and Transport is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999, including:

  • Citizenship: To be eligible for employment, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time of submitting an application
  • Health Assessment: The preferred applicant may be required to undergo a medical examination conducted by the department's preferred medical provider
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to obtain and/or maintain a security clearance at Baseline Level
