International Human Rights Advocate

At Human Rights Watch, we are seeking two interns for our Sydney office to join our Advocacy and Development and Outreach Department. As an intern in this role, you will have the opportunity to work on projects surrounding domestic and international issues of Australia, gaining valuable experience in human rights advocacy.
The ideal candidate will be a currently enrolled student with a strong interest in international human rights. You will be well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable, with excellent computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office). Experience with fundraising, media, social media, government relations, event planning, and Salesforce would be beneficial.
Your responsibilities will include conducting background desk research and fact-checking, assisting with preparation of published materials, monitoring press coverage and updating lists, and supporting outreach tasks regarding human rights in the Asia region. You will also have the opportunity to use databases and support with tasks relating to event planning.
In return for your hard work, you will receive up to $15 per day for lunch and up to $20 per day for transportation while in the office. Students are often able to arrange academic credit, which can be a great way to gain practical experience in human rights advocacy.
We estimate the annual salary for this role to be around AU$50,000 - AU$60,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
